Taking Care Of Your Cats/Dogs Nails

Published by Jodi at 8:27 am under Health Edit This

Okay first of all I am not and never will believe in having a cat declawed, for me this is a very inhumane thing to do to a cat, to each there own. But I do believe in keeping my cats nails trimmed. No it is not an easy task on my one cat but on my other she seems to tolerate it more. Some cats barely notice when they are having their nails trimmed, while others squirm and resist relentlessly as I said my other one will do. Nail trimming is a necessary part of your pet’s grooming routine. Over-grown nails drag on the ground and cause dis-comfort that can travel up the leg when your pet walks or runs. When dewclaws, near the pet’s ankle, are not trimmed, they can curve into the skin and trigger pain and infection. When your cats nails are trimmed they are also less capable of damaging furniture or your own skin when they scratch. Cats and dogs both need their nails trimmed monthly. A real good sign that your cat or dog needs their nails trimmed, they might make a scratching noise when they walk across tiled kitchen floor, or they can also get their nails caught in your carpet and fall, that is not a good thing at all, so trim those nails regularly. If don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, call your vet, or a local groomer.I am very picky when it comes to my cats so I have my vet do it, I have been with him for years and I trust him. It is totally up to the individual.
